Human Subjects Training

ATTENTION READ NEW POLICY by clicking here: CSUSB INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT ON MANDATORY HUMAN SUBJECTS TRAINING EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2006 - IRB applicants must complete CITI Online Human Subjects Training before submitting their IRB applications.

IRB ONLINE TRAINING - For Faculty, Staff, and Students to learn the fundamentals in the Protection of Human Subjects In Research.

CITI Course in The Protection of Human Research Subjects

The Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) was founded in March 2000 as a collaboration between the University of Miami and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center to develop a web based training program in human research subjects protections. The CITI course contains training modules for Biomedical and Social and Behavior Science research. Social and Behavioral research is the primary research performed here at California State University, San Bernardino.  In addition to the "basic" content, the CITI model provides the opportunity for our institution to post additional instructional materials specific to CSUSB.

ATTENTION READ, READ, READ: STUDENTS AND FACULTY - Failure to read the instructions and complete the correct human subjects training module will delay processing of your application.

REQUIRED TRAINING FOR FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS, AND ADMINISTRATORS

GROUP 1BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH INVESTIGATORS AND KEY PERSONNEL

OR

GROUP 2 – SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH INVESTIGATORS AND KEY                        PERSONNEL

The above listed research modules (Learning Groups) are the human subjects training courses required to comply with the Mandatory Training Policy (See Policy Here). There is a small test at the end of each module consisting of 5 to 10 questions. Passing score is 100%, but you can retake the test as many times as you require. The module simply scrambles the order of the questions to ensure your paying attention. Please note, IRB applications will not be accepted until both the student and the student thesis/project advisor have completed the mandatory training requirement.

Thank you students and advisors for your attention to this mandatory training requirement.

IMPORTANT TO READ: ADDITIONAL TRAINING (IN YOU WISH TO FURTHER YOUR HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH EDUCATION) NOT REQUIRED AND THE CSU IRB WILL NOT ACCEPT THE BELOW LISTED TRAINING GROUPS AS ONE OF THE REQUIRED TRAINING MODULES NOTED ABOVE.

IRB REFERENCE RESOURCE: All CITI modules are available for ongoing use and reference when you join this Learner Group. However, if you are required to complete the CITI modules as a prerequisite for conducting human subjects research, you must enroll in one of the Groups listed above and complete the required course content to receive "credit" for the course. You may change your Learner Group status later to "IRB Reference Resource" for ongoing access and resource use of all CITI modules.

GOOD CLINICAL PRACTICE AND ICH: This course consists of 13 modules on GCP and ICH E6 for invetigators. This Basic GCP course should not be attempted until the Basic Human Subjects Course is completed. Choose this learner group and follow the link to the Basic Course.
